Sophie Xiong
你好! My name is Sophie Xiong/熊晓虹, a second-year M.A. andidate at Johns Hopkins SAIS-Nanjing
Sophie Xiong is currently studying at the Johns Hopkins-Nanjing University Center for Chinese and American Studies in Nanjing to receive a Master's in International Affairs from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Affairs. Although her classes range from Ethnic Minorities in China to Contemporary Chinese Foreign Policy, her thesis will be about translation theories which influenced Ding Ling's English translated works. She is also currently working for Shenandoah: the Washington and Lee review. Recently she published a review. She is an associate editor for the SAIS Observer as well. She is currently working on an article, which is an interview with Hu Jie, the Chinese documentary-maker. Her writing website is at fictionaut.
Sophie spent her summer at Shepherd's Field Children's Village, where she translated for Chinese-speaking workers, children, tourists, and American staffers. Also, she was able to teach the children dance quite a few times. An avid fan of dance, Sophie was able to perform and choreograph during her high school and college years for almost ten years. She is currently teaching classes at the Hopkins-Nanjing Center.
